Airline Guarantees During Federal Shutdown Capacity Restrictions
1. United Airlines: Penalty-free cancellations for all fares, and changes can only be made without penalty if travel is within 6 days of original flight. But fare differentials will apply. "And importantly, any customer traveling during this period is eligible for a refund if they do not wish to fly – even if their flight isn't impacted. That includes non-refundable tickets and those customers with basic economy tickets."
2. American Airlines: Free changes and cancellations for all fares, but fare differentials will apply. "To provide additional flexibility during the impacted travel period, customers whose flights are cancelled for any reason or who choose not to travel will be able to change their flight or request a refund without any penalty."
3. Delta Air Lines: Free changes and cancellations for all fares. Fare differentials will apply after November 21st and depending on the class of service. "We are providing additional flexibility to our customers traveling to, from or through the impacted markets during the impacted travel period to change, cancel or refund their flights, including Delta Main Basic fares, without penalty during this travel period."
4. Southwest Airlines: Passengers with flights that are not yet affected by the FAA reduction are eligible for changes without penalty or fare differentials through November 13. Passengers with Basic tickets are still eligible to receive flight credit for flight cancellations/changes.
5. Alaska Airlines: "Tickets must be changed or canceled prior to the departure of your original flight. No difference in fare will apply for new travel in the same cabin to and from the same city pair." if the new flight occurs before November 24.
6. Spirit Airlines: No known statement.
7. JetBlue Airways: Penalty free cancellations for all fares, and provided that you change your flight to a date before Nov. 20, there are no change fees or fare differentials.
8. Frontier Airlines: For flights from November 7-November 12, passengers can cancel or change any affected flight without fees, but passengers have to pay fare differentials: Passengers can change or cancel unaffected flights for flight credit only.
9. Allegiant Air: No known statement.
10. Sun Country Airlines: Penalty-free cancellations and changes for all fares through November 19, but fare differentials may apply.
