MEDIA ALERT: FlyersRights' Rulemaking Petition is Open

“The Case of the Incredible Shrinking Airline Seat” Rulemaking Petition Is Open For Public Comment on Regulations.gov

Members of the public are able to comment on FlyersRights’ rulemaking petition that was submitted to the FAA on October 5, 2022. FlyersRights filed this rulemaking petition on the three year anniversary of the Congressional deadline for the FAA to promulgate minimum seat size standards.

The rulemaking petition argues that minimum seat size dimensions are necessary for safety and health. Specifically, the petition covers emergency evacuations, blood clots/deep vein thrombosis, the ability to adopt the brace position, and personal space.

Members of the public may comment on this rulemaking petition. Note, the FAA is concurrently requesting public comments on the effect of seat size on emergency evacuation.

The FAA has established a November 1 deadline for those comments.

FlyersRights.org will file comments this Friday.

The docket number for the rulemaking petition is FAA-2022-1353 and can be accessed at:
