Update: Our Letter to the Boeing CEO

Recently, we wrote to the new CEO of Boeing requesting that he provides more transparency to and communication with stakeholders, such as passenger representatives and independent safety experts. We believe open communication could foster a productive dialogue and that transparency can provide a way for Boeing to convince passengers that Boeing is putting procedures in place to ensure safe airplanes going forward.

Despite our hopes for a response, our concerns have not been acknowledged. Unfortunately, this represents a poor start for the new CEO. While the FAA may be ok with Boeing shielding basic and necessary information under an overly broad claim of trade secrets and proprietary information, we are not.

The FAA responded to our Freedom of Information request that sought the Boeing Quality Control Action Plan by completely redacting the document, except for the executive summary already published by Boeing. This represents a violation of the spirit and the letter of the law. While we will attempt mediation with the FAA, we fear that the renewed FAA-Boeing veil of secrecy will force us back into court.

Boeing’s continued coverup is business as usual.

We will continue to fight for passengers and for aviation safety. Stay tuned for further updates, and please feel free to share your thoughts with us. Only together can we force Boeing to become a responsible actor.
