What You Need To Know About The Transparent Ancillary Fee Rule

What You Need To Know About The Transparent Ancillary Fee Rule

This rule will take effect around April 26, 2025 for airlines, October 26, 2025 for large ticket agents, and April 26, 2026 for small ticket agents.

  1. Airlines or ticket agents selling a ticket must display critical ancillary fees to you, on the first page a fare and schedule is quoted, including: (1) carry-on bag fees, (2) first and second checked bag fees, (3) change fees, (4) cancellation fees, and (5) other ancillary fees deemed “critical” by the Secretary of Transportation
  2. This information must be disclosed on the same webpage that the fare and schedule is first quoted to you. Popups and rollovers may be used, but airlines may not provide this information via a link to a separate page.
  3. Airlines and ticket agents will always have to display change and cancellation fee information, but they do not have to display bag fee information if the passenger affirmatively indicates they do not plan on bringing bags or do not wish to see bag fee information.
  4. This information must be provided in a clear, accurate, and conspicuous manner.
