3 Things to Check Before Taking Your Next Trip
So much has changed in travel during the pandemic and now that things are getting back to 'normal', much is changing again. As a traveler, it is hard to keep track of all the changes. Here is a short list of some of the most common mistakes that travelers are making.
1. Expiration Dates of your ID/Passport
Most people did not bother to check their passports or other traveling IDs during the pandemic because no one traveled. When you don't use it, you forget right? Unfortunately, many are finding that their IDs have expired - often when it is too late. Be sure to do a review of your traveling documents - IDs, passports, visas etc. You don't want to be one of those who get to the airport - only to find that you cannot travel due to an expired passport or driver's license. As a rule - passports should be valid for at least 6 more months after your return date. Don't cut it too close either.
2. Travel Requirements
We sometimes assume that everything in other states, provinces, or countries are similar to where we live. That is the furthest from the truth. Each area of the world has unique travel requirements. It is best to research them before planning your trip. We have listed some websites under our Resources page that you can use to get more information. Once you have booked your trip, be sure to check back in again as things change. Remember that it is not just about visas and travel safety but also about vaccination requirements and mask policies. Just assume that things are different wherever you are going and check each time to make sure.
3. Cancellations and Refunds
Make sure that you are familiar with the cancellation and refund policies of the airline, hotel, rental car etc. Sometimes things can happen. Booking a refundable rate or with a company that provides you the ability to cancel without charging you a fee is really important. There are many reasons why travel can be cancelled or put on hold - the last thing you want is to have to pay extra or be surprised.
