Airfares are Falling this Fall

Airfares are Falling this Fall

If traveling was not an option during the summer as airfares sky rocketed, there is some hope coming your way.  This fall, airfares are expected to drop by as much as 40% - at least until the holidays.  This means more travel opportunities.

Average Airfares

The average airfare was the highest in May 2022 at $628.  This was not just the highest in 2022 but the highest in history dating back as far as 2015.  Since then it has dropped in June 2022 at $605, July 2022 at $555 and in August 2022 at $526.  When you look historically at airfares in Sept, Oct and Nov, they are historically lower at least until the holidays kick in.

Advance Purchase

Historically, you could get good prices between 21-30 days out.  That is getting harder and harder to find.  Now you need to book at least 30 days in advance to get a good airfare.  Chances of finding those last minute deals are long gone. The earlier you book the better your chances of getting a good price with airlines and hotels.

Cancellations and Refunds

Make sure that you are familiar with the cancellation and refund policies of the airline, hotel, rental car.  Sometimes things can happen.  Booking a refundable rate or with a company that provides you the ability to cancel without charging you a fee is really important. There are many reasons why travel can be cancelled or put on hold - the last thing you want is to have to pay extra or be surprised.

Book Now

If you are thinking of taking a trip this year, wait no longer.  Travel to Europe and South America is the lowest during the fall months.  Another list of destinations can be those countries that are just re-opening - Australia, Japan, Singapore are some of keep in mind.
