Dos & Don'ts of Flying
The world is ready to travel again, but everything is different. Don’t expect airports and airlines to have the same processes as they did before COVID-19 changed everything. This is an exciting time where more recreational travel is possible, and these tips will get you ready.
Dos of Flying:
- Do Arrive to the Airport Early. Airport processes are now different than they were before 2020. Expect longer security lines and wait times when checking baggage.
- Do Bring Food & Water for the Flight. In-flight services have been cut dramatically. Be sure to bring enough food and water for the duration of your flight. Furthermore, if you have a connecting flight, bring enough for both flights. A delay could keep you from refueling on a layover.
- Do Schedule Rideshare in Advance. With increased demand, services like Uber and Lyft can have extremely long wait times. In order to arrive at the airport on time, schedule a ride in advance so you aren’t stressed while waiting for your ride.
Don't of Flying:
- Don't Forget the Essentials. Be sure to triple-check that you have your identification, credit card, mask, and boarding pass/confirmation email with you before you leave the house. All airports and airlines are still requiring passengers to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status.
- Don't Nap at your Gate. Wait until you’re securely on the plane to catch up on sleep. Even if you set an alarm, napping at your gate can cause a frazzled and rushed boarding experience, or result in you missing your flight altogether.
- Don't Go Heavy on the Alcohol. Traveling is extremely dehydrated, and alcohol exacerbates these effects. Whether you’re drinking before your flight or while on the plane, be sure to pair each drink with at least a glass of water and limit yourself to only a couple.
