FlyersRights.org is hosting a press event for its minimum seat size standards rulemaking petition. FlyersRights.org filed the rulemaking petition with the FAA today, the 4th anniversary of the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act and the 3rd anniversary of the Congressional deadline for the FAA to establish minimum seat size standards. The FAA has not started the rulemaking process and denies, in court, that it must set minimum standards.

FlyersRights.org’s rulemaking petition evaluated ergonomics studies and the FAA’s emergency evacuation process. The petition proposes actual seat dimensions that accommodate 90-92% of the population. FlyersRights.org argues this petition is necessary to protect safety and health, specifically with respect to emergency evacuations, deep vein thrombosis, the brace position, and personal space.

FlyersRights.org President Paul Hudson will present a summary of the rulemaking petition and will answer questions from the media. FlyersRights.org is the largest airline passenger advocacy organization.
